Billy Fiske Memorial Window, Boxgrove Priory

On 17th September 2008 a service was held at Boxgrove Priory to dedicate a stained glass window in memory of the American volunteer Billy Fiske, who was killed serving with 601 Squadron from nearby Tangmere during the Battle of Britain in 1940. His grave is in the churchyard.

The window was commissioned by the Old Comrades Association of 601 Squadron. The window was designed and constructed by Mel Howse and she is to be congratulated on a fitting memorial. The project has been in gestation for many years and credit must be given to Tony Oldham, the late Reggie Spooner and Jack Riddle (who flew alongside Billy in 601) for keeping it from lapsing.
