The Airmen's Stories - Sgt. C R Evans
Cecil Roy Evans of Kingston-on-Thames, Surrey was born on 12th April 1920, the son of George Herbert Evans (1890-1948) and Ethel Clara Evans (nee Webb 1892-1967).
He joined the RAFVR about January 1939 as an Airman u/t Pilot. Called up on 1st September 1939, he completed his training at 1 ITW Cambridge and 2 FTS Brize Norton.
Evans joined 235 Squadron, operating Blenheims, on 26th September 1940.


Evans was killed on 23rd March 1941, still serving with 235 Squadron.
Blenheim IV L9404 LA-A was shot down by a Me109 during an anti-shipping operation off the Dutch coast.
Also lost were Sgt. GSM Macleod (also a Battle veteran) and Sgt. EH Harvey. None were recovered and they are commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial, Evans on Panel 43.
