The Airmen's Stories - Sgt. E A Alexander

Edward Ariss Alexander, of Hove in Sussex, was born on 6th January 1919, the son of Henry Wellington Alexander (1889-1944) and Ada Jane Alexander (nee Ariss 1881-1953).

He attended Brighton Grammar School from 1930.

He joined the RAFVR as an Airman u/t Pilot in May 1938 and carried out his flying training at 16 ERFTS Shoreham.

Called up on 1st September 1939, he completed his training and was serving with 236 Squadron in July 1940. He had married Eileen May Palmer in January 1940.

Commissioned in November that year, Alexander was killed on 25th February 1941, still serving with 236 Squadron.

Blenheim IV V5450 ND-L was shot down by a Me109 on a patrol from St. Eval and came down in the sea.

Sgt. EK Lindsay and Sgt. BM Mansfield were also lost.

Alexander is commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial, panel 31.
