"Scramble", the magnificent centrepiece of the monument
has seen the light of day.
A group of key supporters and the fundraising committee visited
the foundry where all the bronzes are being cast. They saw not
only Scramble, but also all the friezes in their entirety for
the first time.
There is still a lot of finishing work to do before the final
patination (colour) is applied. Despite this everyone was highly
impressed.
Dame Vera Lynn, one of the key supporters since the earliest
days of the project was moved to say; "I am delighted that
this monument is coming together. Having now seen the pieces
of the monument I know it will be a stunning tribute to not only
the Few but also everyone else who was there during the Battle.
I can see it attracting visitors from around the world."
The pictures show Scramble, Lord Tebbit (Chairman of the fundraising
committee) and Dame Vera inspecting a casting and part of the
media interest that accompanied the event.
