Croydon signing event 4th & 5th June 2005

As part of the Society's drive to raise funds to bring foreign-based Battle of Britain veterans to the UK for the Monument unveiling our Chairman of Trustees Gerry Burke organised a signing event recently at the old Terminal Building at Croydon Airport. We are indebted to Donald Hulbert (ex 257 & 501), Trevor Gray (ex 64), Ken Mackenzie (ex 501), Joe Chamberlain (ex 235) and Leopold Heimes (also 235 and who travelled from his home in Belgium) for giving up their weekend to raise the magnificent sum of £4,000.

This would have not been achieved without the generosity of the Hilton Hotel Group who provided free accomodation and meals for the veterans and their wives plus Society volunteer helpers.

Thanks to all the Society volunteers and members who attended. This drive is in concert with the Air League who are hosting a 65th anniversary celebration for surviving veterans.

Our guests attend a short service at the Croydon Memorial for those who lost their lives flying from Croydon and Kenley.

Donald Hulbert is presented with a print of the aircraft he flew when serving with 257 Squadron, thanks to Edward Sergison for his handiwork on this.
