22nd November 2004 Battle of Britain Monument Fund nears its target Announcement from Rt. Hon The Lord Tebbit Lord Tebbit, chairman of the Battle of Britain Monument Committee, announces today that some £1.6 million has now been raised towards the estimated cost of £1.65m, and that the balance is expected to be attained very shortly. Significantly, more than £230,000 has been received in the last two weeks following Lord Tebbit's revelation in the Mail on Sunday that the Lotteries Heritage Fund had, with the support of the Culture Secretary Miss Tessa Jowell, financed another World War II monument but had refused assistance to the Battle of Britain London Monument.
