The Airmen's Stories - Sgt. L W Viles

 

Leslie William Viles was born on 17th March 1913 in Birmingham and was employed as a Cost Accountant to the wines & spirit trade when he joined the RAF about December 1939 as an Airman u/t Observer.

With his training completed, he joined 236 Squadron in late August 1940. He flew eighteen operational sorties during the Battle of Britain period.

 

 

Commissioned from Warrant Officer in May 1942, Viles was released from the RAF in 1945 as a Flight Lieutenant.

Viles died in September 1958 in Birmingham.
