The Airmen's Stories - Sgt. N T C Swanwick


Newton Thomas Chumleigh Swanwick, of Nottingham, was born on 6th March 1909 and joined the RAF in September 1939 as an Airman u/t Air Gunner. He completed his training and joined 141 Squadron, operating Defiants at Grangemouth in July 1940.

Commissioned on 12th February 1941, Swanwick flew his last operational sortie with 141 Squadron on 1st July 1941.

His subsequent service is currently unknown though he is recorded as being promoted to Flight Lieutenant in February 1943 and coming off the Reserve on 6th March 1956.

He died in August 1987 in Rushcliffe, Notts.
