The Airmen's Stories - S/Ldr. V C F Streatfeild


Victor Charles Frederick Streatfeild was born on 26th September 1905 in Hampshire and joined the RAF on a short service commission in September 1928.

He was posted to 5 FTS Sealand on 1st October and joined 3 Squadron at Upavon on 5th September 1930. He joined the staff at 4 FTS Abu Sueir on 26th September 1933 and moved to 45 Squadron at Helwan on 7th September 1935. Streatfeild was posted to 223 Squadron at Nairobi on 15th December 1936 and returned to 4 FTS Abu Sueir on 9th November 1937.



Returning to the UK, he was given command of No. 1 Coast Artillery Co-operation Unit, Gosport on 5th December 1938. In early July 1940 Streatfeild was in command of 248 Squadron. He was made an OBE (gazetted 29th October 1948) for distinguished service in Palestine.

Streatfeild was released from the RAF in 1950 as a Squadron Leader.

He died on 12th May 1983.
