The Airmen's Stories - Sgt. D R Stoodley

 

Donald Raymond Stoodley, from Southampton, was born in September 1919 in Salisbury and joined the RAFVR about June 1939 as an Airman u/t Pilot. Called up on 1st September, he completed his training at 9 FTS, Hullavington and arrived at 6 OTU Sutton Bridge on 9th September 1940.

After converting to Hurricanes Stoodley was posted to 43 Squadron at Usworth on the 28th.

He was killed in a flying accident there on 24th October. After making several attempts to make a crosswind landing, he stalled and crashed from 250 feet in Hurricane V7303.

Stoodley was 21. He is buried in London Road Cemetery, Salisbury.
