The Airmen's Stories - P/O W R Moore

 

William Roy Moore was born on 19th April 1911 in Morecambe, Lancashire and trained as a Chartered Surveyor at the Technical School there.

He volunteered for aircrew duties and joined the RAF in March 1940 with a commission as a direct-entry Air Gunner.

After completing his training he arrived at 5 OTU Aston Down on 18th June for training on Defiants.

 

 

He joined 264 Squadron at Kirton-in-Lindsey on 9th July 1940. He served with the squadron until May 1941.

 

Above: he married on 14th September 1940.

 

His subsequent service is currently undocumented until he was released from the RAF in 1945 as a Flight Lieutenant.

Moore died in April 1983 in Peterborough.
