The Airmen's Stories - Sgt. D G Moody
Dennis George Moody was born on 16th May 1916 in West Hampstead, London.
He joined 604 Squadron Auxiliary Air Force before the war as an Aircrafthand.
Called to full-time service on 24th August 1939, he later remustered as an Airman u/t Air Gunner, completed his training and was serving with 604 Squadron by 12th June 1940 as a Sergeant.

Moody later retrained as a Radar Operator. On 17th January 1971 he was aloft at night in Beaufighter R2087 when an engine failed. Moody and
F/Lt. RH Scott baled out safely over Loxley near Sheffield.
In the early hours of 5th July 1941 he was flying with F/Lt. HPF Patten in a Beaufighter of 604. They intercepted and shot down a He111, which crashed near Frome, Somerset.
Commissioned in March 1942, Moody was serving with 96 Squadron at West Malling in January 1944.
Early on the 29th Moody was flying with F/O SA Hibbert. They attacked and damaged a Ju88, which did get back to France but crashed in the St. Omer area.
His subsequent service is currently undocumented until Moody was released from the RAF in 1945 as a Flight Lieutenant.
Postwar he worked for British Steel but died on 30th December 1972 in Chesterfield, Derbyshire.
