The Airmen's Stories - Sgt. E J McKie

 

Ernest John McKie was born in November 1908 and joined the RAFVR about July 1939 as an Airman u/t WOp/AG.

In December 1930 he married Susan Emlyn Mathews in Portsmouth.

Called up on 1st September 1939, he completed his training and joined 248 Squadron on 4th September 1940.

His subsequent service is currently undocumented until he was commissioned in April 1942. He was awarded a Mention in Dispatches in the King's Birthday Honours of 1943 (gazetted 2nd June 1943).

McKie was released from the RAF in 1945 as a Flight Lieutenant.

He died on 27th April 1981 in Exeter.
