The Airmen's Stories - P/O R M McT D Lucas

 

Robin Morton McTaggart Delight Lucas was born on 24th October 1919 and joined the RAF on a short service commission in July 1939. He began his elementary flying training at 10 E&RFTS Yatesbury on the 24th. He went to 3 ITW Hastings on 22nd October 1939 and then to 6 FTS Little Rissington on 7th November.


With his training completed, Lucas was posted to 5 OTU Aston Down and, after converting to Defiants, he joined 141 Squadron at Prestwick on 19th August 1940.

 

 

He was with the squadron until 17th June 1941. Lucas went on to 410 (RCAF) Squadron on 10th July, then forming at Ayr.

In mid-January 1942 Lucas was posted to 61 OTU East Fortune and was later serving with 132 OTU there. In the second half of 1943 he was at 8 OTU Dyce and went to 6 (P)AFU Little Rissington on 30th November as an instructor.


Lucas was posted to a staff job at the Air Ministry on 14th November 1944. He went to India in May 1945 and returned to the UK for release in February 1946.

He died on 29th September 2011.
