The Airmen's Stories - Sgt. T B Kirk
Thomas Brian Kirk was born on 1st February 1919 in Thirsk and joined 608 Squadron, Auxiliary Air Force as an Aircrafthand about June 1939. He later remustered as an Airman u/t Pilot. With his training completed, Kirk joined 74 Squadron on 26th August 1940. He claimed a Me110 destroyed on 11th September.
Kirk was shot down over Maidstone on 20th October. He baled out, severely wounded, and was admitted to Preston Hall Hospital. His Spitfire, P7370, crashed at Coxheath.
Kirk died of his wounds on 22nd July 1941, aged 22.
He is buried in St Oswald's churchyard, East Harlsey, Yorkshire.
