The Airmen's Stories - Sgt. F W G Killingback

Frederick William George Killingback was born on 14th February 1915 and joined the RAF in June 1935 as an Aircrafthand. He later remustered as an Airman u/t Pilot and after completing his training he went to 5 OTU Aston Down in May 1940.

After converting to Hurricanes Killingback joined 249 Squadron at Leconfield on 9th June. On 7th September he was in combat over Maidstone when he was shot down in Hurricane R4230. He baled out, injured, and was admitted to hospital.

In the spring of 1941 Killingback was an instructor at 52 OTU Debden. Commissioned in August 1941, his subsequent service is currently unknown but he stayed in the RAF postwar, being released in 1948 as a Flight Lieutenant.

He died in November 1992 in St. Albans.
