The Airmen's Stories - Sgt. G Kensall

 

George Kensall of Cowpen, Blyth, Northumberland was born in October 1921, the son of Ernest Walter and Elizabeth Kensall.

He joined the RAF in June 1940 as an Aircrafthand, volunteered for aircrew duties and was sent on a short radar course.

 

 

Kensall completed his training and joined 25 Squadron at North Weald in early October 1940. He did two operational sorties, on 5th and 7th October 1940 which qualified him for the Battle of Britain Clasp.

He was killed on 20th December 1943 as a Sergeant with 428 Squadron operating from Middleton St. George, Co Durham.

His Halifax, LK928, came down near Mendig, south of Bonn, cause unknown. Those killed were buried locally, their graves are now located in Rheinberg War Cemetery.

Kensall was 22.
