The Airmen's Stories - AC2 A Jackson

Arthur Jackson was born on 20th May 1911 to Arthur and Rose Hannah Jackson of Mexborough, Yorkshire.

He joined the RAF in June 1940 as an Aircrafthand. It is believed that he volunteered for flying duties and was sent to Yatesbury for a short radar course. He then joined 29 Squadron on 10th August.

On 13th October 1940 Blenheims K7135 and L6637 were aloft from Tern Hill when they were attacked in error by S/Ldr. J Ambrus, F/Lt. HAG Comerford and Sgt. J Stehlik in Hurricanes of 312 Czech Squadron over the Point of Ayr, SW of Liverpool.

Despite firing the colours of the day L6637 was shot down into the sea with the loss of Sgt. RE Stevens, Sgt. OK Sly and Jackson.

K7135 with F/O JD Humphreys, Sgt. EH Bee and AC1 JF Fizell was able to break off and return to base.

Jackson was 29. He is buried in Mexborough Cemetery.
