The Airmen's Stories - F/Lt. D B Hobson

 

Desmond Bogan Hobson was born on 30th May 1912 and attended the Friends School at Sibford Ferris, Oxfordshire.

He joined the RAF on a short service commission in January 1936. He was posted to 7 FTS Peterborough on 18th April and joined 3 Squadron at Kenley on 25th October 1936.

 

 

He was still serving with the squadron at the outbreak of war but went to 609 Squadron soon afterwards.

 

 

On 8th December 1939 Hobson joined 72 Squadron but by late February 1940 he was serving with 64 Squadron as an Acting Flight Lieutenant.

Over Dunkirk on 29th May he damaged a Me109.

He was posted away to 8 FTS on 9th October 1940 as an instructor, and then to CFS Upavon on 14th December.

His subsequent service is currently undocumented but he survived the war and was released from the RAF in 1945 as a Squadron Leader.

Postwar he worked in civil aviation.

Hobson died in 1974.
