The Airmen's Stories - Sgt. F A P Head
Frederick Arthur Percy Head was born on 5th February 1915 in Steyning, Sussex, the son of Percy Herbert Head and Nellie Louise Head (nee Taylor).
He joined the RAF in September 1939 as an Airman u/t Air Gunner.
He married Audrey Cox in
October 1939 in Brighton, Sussex.
With his training completed Head joined 236 Squadron on 27th March 1940.
On 11th July he was in Blenheim L6816 which was damaged by return fire from a He111 engaged over Start Point but it landed safely at St Eval.
On 1st August 1940 Head was in Blenheim IV R2774 which failed to return from a bomber-escort operation. It may have been shot down by the ground defences at Querqueville aerodrome or could have been the victim of Oblt. Dullberg of III/JG27. P/O BM McDonough was also lost.
Head was 25. He is commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial, panel 15.
