The Airmen's Stories - P/O S Fejfar

Stanislav Fejfar was born in Stikov, Czechoslovakia on 25th November 1912. Serving with the Czech air force in 1939, he escaped to France following the German takeover of his country on 15th March 1939.

By May 1940 he was serving with Groupe de Chasse I/6 of the French Air Force and on 20th May he destroyed a Me109. This was followed by a shared He111 on the 25th, a He111 on the 29th and a Hs123 destroyed on 5th June.

After the French collapse Fejfar along with other Czech airmen sailed on the General Chanzy from Port Vendres to Oran in Algeria. He was then able to travel to Gibraltar aboard the Neuralia and on to Liverpool on a larger ship.

He was taken into the RAF and arrived at 6 OTU Sutton Bridge in August 1940 for conversion to Hurricanes. Engine failure resulted in a crash near the airfield on 17th August.

He was posted to 310 Squadron at Duxford on 7th September and shot down a Me109 on the 9th, a Do17 on the 15th and a Ju88 shared on the 18th.

In early 1942 Fejfar was serving with 313 (Czech) Squadron at Hornchurch and on 27th February he damaged a Fw190, on 12th March damaged a Me109, on 25th April damaged another Fw190 with a Fw190 destroyed on 5th May.

While escorting Bostons on the 17th May for an attack on a radio-location station at Wissant in France he was shot down and killed in Spitfire BL973.

Fejfar is buried in Pihen-les-Guines Cemetery.
