Patrick James Duncan was born on 26th December 1919, the son of Alexander Duncan, a nurseryman, and Maud Duncan.
He is recorded as flying one operational sortie with 29 Squadron as a Radar Operator on 28th September 1940.
It has not been possible to find further data but it is known that he had been commissioned on 18th August 1940 and subsequently retrained as a pilot. He was awarded the AFC (gazetted 1st January 1944) and the DFC (gazetted 22nd May 1945) while serving with 128 Squadron which operated Mosquitos from Wyton, he was then an acting Squadron Leader.
Duncan survived the war and was still serving in the RAF when he was killed on 27th September 1948 whilst based at Hullavington. Harvard FT402 of the Empire Flying School was seen to dive out of cloud while engaged on instrument flying practice. A wing broke off when the pilot attempted to recover.
Duncan is buried in Caterham Cemetery.
