The Airmen's Stories - F/O R G E Diamant

Robert George Elphinston Diamant was born on 23rd November 1906 and spent time in Egypt in his youth. He was educated at Hillside House, Bradfield College 1920-24.

Diamant was commissioned in the RAFVR on 8th April 1940 in the Administrative and Special Duties Branch. He joined 600 Squadron at Northolt on 1st June as Intelligence Officer.

He flew for the first time in a Blenheim on 3rd June, apparently trying out the AI apparatus. He made further flights on 5th and 19th June and 2nd July.

Diamant flew on an operational sortie on 17th July with F/O JG Cave as pilot and P/O JR Juleff as Air Gunner. He made no further operational sorties.

His subsequent service is currently undocumented though a relative remembers that he served in Malta during the siege there and he was later aboard an aircraft that crashed, leaving him with life-long injuries.

He married Daphne Lucke in November 1948.

Diamant died on 10th March 1989 in Faversham, Kent.
