Henry George Deadman was born in Motherwell on 4th July 1913. He was educated at the Commercial School Dunfermline and Queen Anne Secondary School. He was a musician before the war and joined the RAFVR on 3rd September 1939.

He joined 236 Squadron late in 1939 and was qualified as a WOp/AG by June 1940. He was promoted to Sergeant from LAC in June.

Deadman was still serving with 236 in November 1940.
