The Airmen's Stories - P/O R A DeMancha
Ricardo Adriani de Mancha was born on 23rd May 1917 in London, the son of a British father of Spanish descent and an English mother.
He joined the RAFVR about July 1938 as an Airman u/t Pilot. Called up on 1st September 1939, he completed his training at 5 FTS and arrived at 6 OTU Sutton Bridge on 8th June 1940 to convert to Hurricanes.
De Mancha was posted to 43 Squadron at Tangmere on 21st June. He shared in the destruction of a He111 on 12th July.
In a combat ten miles south of the Needles on the 21st de Mancha, in Hurricane I P3973, collided with a Me109 flown by Lt. Kroker of 7/JG27. Both men were killed.
DeMancha was 23 years old. He is remembered on the Runnymede Memorial, panel 8.
