The Airmen's Stories - Sgt. P E Davis

Peter Edgar Davis joined the RAF as a Boy Entrant. He later volunteered for flying duties, completed his training and joined 236 Squadron on 24th October 1940 as a WOp/AG.

By 1942 he was serving with 35 Squadron.

On 2nd June 1942 Halifax R9444 TL*D of 35 Squadron was returning to Linton-on-Ouse after bombing Essen when it was shot down by night fighters. The pilot, Sgt. PA Hilton, brought it down near St. Leonards, Brecht, Belgium. All the crew survived as prisoners:

He was held in Stalag Luft 6 at Heydekrug. Freed in 1945, as a Warrant Officer, he was released from the RAF later in the year.
