The Airmen's Stories - Sgt. H Corcoran

 

Henry Corcoran, of Higher Openshaw, Manchester was born on 11th February 1911, the son of Edward Corcoran (1877-1957) and Lily Wilson (1876-1946).

He joined the RAF about May 1935 as an Aircrafthand. He later remustered as an Air Gunner and after completing his training he joined 236 Squadron at Thorney Island on 19th July 1940.

The next day he was flying with Sgt. EE Lockton on an escort operation in Blenheim L1300. They were shot down by Hptm. Neumann of JG27. Both men were reported 'Missing' after their aircraft crashed into the Channel off Cherbourg.

Corcoran was 27. His name is on the Runnymede Memorial, panel 13.
