The Airmen's Stories - P/O J H H Copeman

 

Jack Harry Hamilton Copeman was born on 11th May 1913, the son of George Marshall Copeman (1841-1915) and Blanche Ethel Davies (1872-1931).

He joined the RAF on a short service commission in August 1938.

When war broke out he was serving with 111 Squadron at Croydon. He damaged a Me109 on 17th July 1940 and destroyed a Ju88 on the 31st.

On 11th August Copeman was shot down and killed in combat off Margate, his Hurricane P3105 coming down in the Channel. He was 27 years old.

His body was washed ashore in Belgium on 23rd August 1940 and he was buried in Middlekerke Communal Cemetery.
