The Airmen's Stories - Sgt. G P Clark
Godfrey Percival Clark was born on 4th June 1915 and recorded in the 1939 Census as a Private Hire Driver in
Weston-super-Mare.
He married Beatrice Vera Pender at St. Pauls Church, Weston-super-Mare on 24th June 1937.
Clark joined the RAFVR in November 1939, he volunteered for aircrew duties and trained as an Air Gunner.
He joined 604 Squadron at Middle Wallop on 16th August 1940.
After the squadron went over to Beaufighters in the later months of 1940, Clark and other air gunners were posted to Bomber Command.
Commissioned in March 1943, he was awarded the DFC (gazetted 13th October 1944) serving with 102 Squadron and flying in Halifaxes from Pocklington.
Clark was released from the RAF in 1947 as a Flight Lieutenant.
He died in May 1995 in Taunton Deane, Somerset.
