The Airmen's Stories - F/Lt. D L Clackson
David Laurence Clackson was born on 8th March 1914 and joined 600 Squadron Auxiliary Air Force at Hendon in 1935, he was called for full-time service on 24th August 1939.
By June 1940 he was an Acting Flight Lieutenant and 'B' Flight Commander in 600 Squadron.
He served with the squadron throughout the Battle of Britain and was posted away on 8th January 1941 to form and command 68 Squadron at Catterick, which became operational on 7th April as a night fighter unit.
His subsequent service is currently undocumented until he was made an MBE (gazetted 14th June 1945).
Clackson was released from the RAF in 1946 as a Wing Commander.
He died in August 1989 in Brighton.
