The Airmen's Stories - F/Lt. A M Campbell

Alexander Middleton Campbell was born on 16th October 1917 and joined the RAF on a short service commission and began his training on 16th November 1936.

He was posted to 2 FTS Digby on 6th February 1937. After completing his training he joined 29 Squadron at Debden on 8th January 1938.

Above: he married in February 1942.

On 21st May 1940 he was promoted to Acting Flight Lieutenant and appointed 'B' Flight Commander.

Campbell was posted away on 1st December 1940 and joined 258 Squadron, recently reformed at Leconfield, as 'A' Flight Commander.

His subsequent service is currently undocumented until, having stayed in the RAF postwar, he retired on 17th October 1956 as a Wing Commander.

Campbell died in March 1981 in Carmarthen.
