The Airmen's Stories - Sgt. A R Cain

Anthony Richard Cain from Harpenden, Hertfordshire was born in October 1919, the son of Fred William and Madge Cain.

He joined the RAFVR in June 1939 as an Airman u/t WOp/AG, he was called up on 1st September 1939.

After completing his training he was posted to 235 Squadron, operating Blenheims. He served with them throughout the Battle and was still with them when he was killed on 15th June 1941.

Blenheim IV V5452 LA-N was on an anti-shipping sortie off Norway when it was shot down by a fighter.

The pilot, F/Lt. WB Goddard DFC, and observer F/Sgt. H Smith were also lost and are commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial. Cain's body was washed up in Sweden and he is buried in Kviberg Cemetery, Gothenburg there.

He appears on the Vauxhall Motors war memorial at Luton so presumably was employed by them prewar.
