The Airmen's Stories - Sgt. C G Burton
Cyril George Burton was born on 20th March 1916 in Happisburgh and attended Paston School in Norfolk.
He joined the RAF as an Aircraft Apprentice in September 1931 and passed out on 16th August 1934 as a Metal Rigger. He later successfully applied for pilot training.
He was serving with 23 Squadron at Collyweston as a Flight Sergeant pilot in June 1940 and served with it throughout the Battle of Britain and was still with the squadron in November 1940.
On 1st July 1940 he had married Nana Greenwood, a WAAF, at Wittering.
His subsequent service is currently undocumented though it is known that he was commissioned in May 1941 and released from the RAF in 1945 as a Flight Lieutenant.
He died in May 1996 in Great Yarmouth.
