The Airmen's Stories - Sgt. E Bloor

Ernest Bloor, of Stamford, Lincolnshire was born on 5th March 1914, the son of William and Annie Bloor.

He attended Cockburn High School in Leeds.

Bloor joined the RAF as an Aircraft Apprentice in September 1930 and passed out in August 1933 as a Fitter, Aero Engines. He later successfully applied for pilot training.

He married Ruth Rollinson in Stamford in April 1938.

Bloor was serving with 46 Squadron at the start of the Battle of Britain. On 3rd September 1940 he was shot down in combat over Canewdon and baled out, with slight burns on his face. His Hurricane, P3024, crashed into the sea wall at Beckney Farm, South Fambridge.

Bloor was killed on 27th August 1941 serving with No. 1 Squadron when his Hurricane, Z3843, crashed near Horsham whilst on a searchlight co-operation flight. His engine failed and he bailed out too low.

Bloor was 27 years old. He is buried in Stamford Cemetery, Lincolnshire.
