The Airmen's Stories - Sgt. Bicknell

A LAC Bicknell, first name unknown, was serving in the regular RAF in 1937. He applied for pilot training and was selected. He did his initial training at 8 E&RFTS Woodley in January and February 1938.

He moved on to 9 FTS Hullavington on 5th March 1938. With his flying training completed, Bicknell was posted to 29 Squadron at Debden in late September 1938.

He moved to 23 Squadron at Wittering on 9th September 1939 and was still serving with it in July 1940.

The last mention of Bicknell in the 23 Squadron ORB is on 4th September 1940. No further service details of Sergeant Bicknell have been traced and all efforts to identity him have failed. he does not appear in the CWGC records so it can be assumed that he survived the war.

He appears erroneously on the monument with the initial 'N', this was subsequently discovered to have been a completely different airman.
