The Airmen's Stories - Sgt. H Bashford

 

Henry Bashford was born on 21st June 1916 in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire and joined the RAFVR about September 1938 as an Airman u/t Pilot. He later remustered as a u/t Observer and was called up on 1st September 1939.

With his training completed he joined 248 Squadron on 29th June 1940 and served with it throughout the Battle of Britain.


Bashford was posted away in July 1941 to 404 (RCAF) Squadron at Skitten, a maritime reconnaissance and coastal strike unit. He served with it until April 1942.


Commissioned in January 1943, Bashford was released from the RAF in 1946 as a Flight Lieutenant.

He joined the RAFVR in September 1948.

Bashford died on 17th December 2008 in Cambridge.
