The Airmen's Stories - P/O R Ambrose

Richard Ambrose was born on 6th June 1919 in Swansea and educated at Ellesmere School.

He went on to Imperial College, where he read Engineering at the School of Mines. He was a member of London University Air Squadron.

Commissioned in the RAFVR in June 1939, Ambrose was called up on 21st October and was posted to 25 Squadron at Martlesham Heath on 18th August 1940 but moved to Stapleford on the 26th to join 151 Squadron.

Ambrose was detailed to ferry Hurricane V7406 to Digby on 4th September. He was killed when he crashed into a crane on take-off and the aircraft burned out.

Ambrose was 21 years old and is buried in Epping Cemetery, Essex.
