The Airmen's Stories - Sgt. J W Allen

 

John William Allen was born on 20th October 1920 in London and joined the RAFVR in May 1939 as an Airman u/t Pilot. Called up on 1st September 1939, he completed his training and joined 266 Squadron at Wittering from 7 OTU Hawarden on 7th October 1940.

He was posted away to 64 Squadron at Hornchurch on 27th November. On 2nd February 1941 Allen made a forced-landing at Stone, near Faversham because of a lack of fuel, he was unhurt.

Allen was still serving with 64 on 1st June 1941 but he disappears from the squadron ORB after this date.

His subsequent service is currently undocumented until he was commissioned from Warrant Officer in November 1942.

Allen was released from the RAF in 1946 as a Flight Lieutenant.

He died in 2011.
