The Airmen's Stories - P/O A Zukowski

Aleksiej Zukowski was born on March 28th 1911. He escaped from Poland and served with Groupe de Chasse I/145 of the French Air Force. He claimed two Do17’s destroyed on June 10th.

Zukowski arrived in England on July 12th 1940 and joined 302 Squadron at Leconfield on August 20th.

He was killed on October 18th when he crashed at Harp Farm, Boxley, near Detling after losing his bearings in deteriorating weather and running out of fuel in Hurricane V6571.

Zukowski is buried in Northwood Cemetery, Middlesex and is also commemorated on the Polish War Memorial at Northolt.

After his death he was awarded the KW (gazetted 23rd December 1940).
