The Airmen's Stories - P/O S Zimprich

 

Stanislav Zimprich was born on March 3rd 1916 at Havlickuv Brod, Czechoslovakia. He was serving in the Czech Air Force when the country was occupied by the Germans on March 15th 1939. He escaped to Poland and joined the Czech forces there. On the fall of Poland he enlisted in the French Air Force and had to escape yet again to England in June 1940.

He joined 310 Squadron at its formation at Duxford on July 10th 1940. Zimprich claimed a Do17

destroyed on September 9th.

He was killed on April 12th 1942, still with 310 as a Flight Lieutenant, when his aircraft collided with that of F/Sgt. Halama near Perranporth.

He was 26 years old.

Zimprich is buried in St Augustine's churchyard, Heanton Punchardon, Devon.
