The Airmen's Stories - F/O K W Worsdell

Kenneth Wilson Worsdell was born in Wakefield on June 6th 1920 and was at Wellington College from 1933 to 1937. He entered RAF College, Cranwell in April 1938 with a prize cadetship and graduated in September 1939.

In October Worsdell joined the newly-formed 219 Squadron at Catterick and was still with it at the start of the Battle of Britain.

He was captain of Beaufighter R2065, which hit trees trying to locate Redhill in bad visibility on October 30th 1940. The aircraft crashed and exploded 150 yards south of Balcombe Place, killing Worsdell and his radar operator, Sergeant E C Gardiner.

Worsdell is buried in Nutfield Cemetery, Surrey.
