The Airmen's Stories - Sgt. P H Waghorn

 

Peter Harry Waghorn joined the RAFVR in May 1939 as an Airman u/t Pilot. Called up on 1st September 1939, he completed his training at 3 FTS and joined 111 Squadron at Debden on 21st August 1940. He moved to 249 Squadron in early October.

 

 

Waghorn flew off HMS Ark Royal to Malta on 3rd April 1941 and joined 261 Squadron. After sharing a Ju88 on the 11th, Waghorn (in Z2904) and P/O P Kennett were jumped by Me109's and shot down. Both lost their lives in the sea.

Waghorn is buried in the Naval Cemetery, Capuccini, Malta.
