The Airmen's Stories - P/O A J J Truran

 

Anthony John Jamieson Truran was born on 28th April 1920 and attended Rugby School from 1933 to 1937. He worked for Sir William Crawford, Advertising Agents in Holborn, London. Truran joined 615 Squadron, Auxiliary Air Force in 1939 and was called to full-time service on 24th August that year.


After completing his training at 5 EFTS and 3 FTS Truran rejoined 615 Squadron, then at Kenley, in late July 1940. On 15th August his Hurricane, L1829, was badly damaged in combat with Me109's over Folkestone but he returned to base with slight injuries.


Truran was killed on 25th November 1940, when he crashed in a Magister at Sunningdale after a wing broke away at 200 feet. P/O JAP McClintock was also killed.

They were both cremated at St John's Crematorium, Woking.
