The Airmen's Stories - Sgt. I R Sims

 

Ivor Reginald Sims, from Gloucester, joined the RAFVR in June 1939 as an Airman u/t Observer. Called up on 1st September 1939, he completed his training and joined 248 squadron from 1 (Coastal) OTU on 25th June 1940. He flew with F/O EH McHardy from September 1940 till July 1941 when 248 converted to Beaufighters.

 

 

In 1942 he was serving with 604 Squadron and was commissioned in April of that year, being awarded the DFM (gazetted 22nd September 1942) for services carried out while a Flight Sergeant.

Sims was killed on 13th January 1945 as a Flight Lieutenant when Oxford V3769 struck the north west of Bredon Hill while descending through cloud on approach to Pershore airfield. Also killed were P/O M Larkin and Sgt GW Stafford.

Sims is buried in Coney Hill Cemetery, Gloucester.
