The Airmen's Stories - F/O B J Rofe

 

Bernard John Rofe, from Douglas, Isle of Man joined the RAF on a short service commission in March 1938 and was posted to 2 FTS Brize Norton on 21st May, then joining 25 Squadron at Hawkinge on 17th December 1938.

During a night attack on an enemy aircraft on 4th September 1940 his Blenheim was hit and suffered tail damage but returned safely. On 18th September he again had to return to North Weald after being damaged by return fire from a night interception.

Rofe was killed on 12th January 1942 as a Flight Lieutenant with 31 (GR) Squadron.

He was 21 years old and is buried in Sherwood Cemetery, Charlottetown, Ontario, Canada.
