Paul Nash - East Anglian Heinkel
Watercolour, 1940

Image courtesy Art Gallery of Western Australia
The painting depicts a coastal location but I have only been able to find a photograph of a He111 of 1/KG76 that came down near Dalkeith, Scotland on 10th February 1940. Being only slightly damaged it was repaired and tested at the Royal Aircraft Establishment, Farnborough. Of course all Heinkels that managed a wheels-down landing and tipped up on an obstacle would look the same, we don't know if Nash made sketches at the location or worked from photographs.
