The Airmen's Stories - Sgt. P J Moore
Peter John Moore, from Melbourne, Australia joined the RAFVR in June 1939 as an Airman u/t Pilot. Called up on 1st September, he completed his training and joined 253 Squadron at Kenley in October 1940.
He made a crash-landing at Newbarn Farm, Southfleet on the 30th in Hurricane V7301 after a combat with Me109's. Commissioned in November 1941, Moore was killed on 3rd June 1942 as a Pilot Officer with 616 Squadron, aged 22. His Spitfire Vb BR191 was shot down by fighters off Le Touquet during Circus 184.
He is buried in Etaples Military Cemetery, France.
