The Airmen's Stories - Sgt. G M Leslie

 

George Mennie Leslie, from Aberdeen, joined the RAF in June 1940 as an Aircrafthand but later retrained as a Radar Operator. On completion of his training he was posted on 2nd August 1940 to 219 Squadron, operating Blenheims from Catterick.

Leslie was killed on 17th December 1940, still with 219, when his Beaufighter IF, R2096, spun in at Smiths Green Farm on the approach to Debden.

His pilot P/O FG Nightingale was also killed.

Leslie is buried in Saffron Walden Cemetery.
