The Airmen's Stories - Lt. (FAA) A T J Kindersley

 

Anthony Thomas James Kindersley, from Yarmouth, joined the Royal Navy as a cadet and passed out on 1st September 1932. He was then granted a temporary commission in the RAF as a Flying Officer but was posted to the Fleet Air Arm for service there. This ended in July 1939. By July 1940 he was serving with 808 squadron at Wick, Scotland, flying Fulmars on dockyard defence. 808 embarked on HMS Ark Royal on 22nd October 1940.

In 1941 the carrier was on convoy escort to Malta, Kindersley sharing in destroying a SM79 on 8th May. While attacking a formation of SM79’s on 25th July 1941, Kindersley was shot down by return fire and posted Missing, aged 26.

He is commemorated on the FAA Memorial, Lee-on-Solent.
