The Airmen's Stories - P/O P L Kenner
Peter Lewis Kenner was educated at Brentwood School and went on to Queen Mary College, London, where he read Engineering. He was a member of the London University Air Squadron in 1937/38 and was commissioned in the RAFVR in June 1939.
Called up on September 1st, Kenner completed his training and arrived at 5 OTU, Aston Down on June 23rd 1940. After converting to Defiants, he joined 264 Squadron at Kirton-in-Lindsey in mid-August.
The squadron went to Homchurch on August 21st. Kenner was shot down in combat with Me109's of JG26 over Thanet on the 28th. He and his gunner, Pilot Officer C E Johnson, were both killed when their Defiant, L7206, crashed in flames on Silliboume Farm, Hinxhill.
Kenner was 21. He is buried in London Road Cemetery, Brentwood. His brother was killed in action with the RAF in 1941.
